Voice Instructor

Leila is a passionate vocal coach and singer. She's dedicated to helping aspiring performers find their unique expression through music and voice. She is fascinated by all aspects of the voice because each one is unique. This makes it a very personal and fascinating instrument.

Leila graduated with honours from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts with a Master’s degree in vocal pedagogy. She started out as a classical singer, but she has continued her education in belting ever since so that she can teach different techniques depending on the genre of music or song you want to learn. For example, songs from musicals such as Carousel, My Fair Lady, The Light in the Piazza, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Bridges of Madison County might require a more classical singing style. Conversely, songs from musicals such as Grease, Wicked, Chicago, Legally Blonde, The Addams Family and Evita require a greater understanding of belting techniques.

Her approach combines technique, musicality, creativity and enthusiasm. This ensures that each student learns to sing, improves their skills and feels empowered to express themselves fully and build confidence.

She looks forward to meeting you and guiding you on your journey to discovering your unique voice!

How are the singing lessons structured?

Wishes and needs can vary from person to person and from day to day. That's why Leila doesn't use a pre- planned template; she tailors each singing lesson to your personal needs. First, we'll look at what you need right now and what you expect from the lesson. Would you like to work on a specific singing technique in detail? Would you like feedback on your interpretation of a song? Do you need mindful exercises to help you reconnect with yourself and your body if you're feeling under pressure?

Depending on whether you have sung a lot that day or have just woken up, we will either start with a song that we will work on technically and/or creatively, or we will begin with a warm-up. She usually starts with a physical exercise, followed by some vocal technique exercises. These will vary depending on the style you want to sing in this lesson, or if you are working on a specific technical issue.

Leila likes to incorporate words, phrases or parts of your chosen songs into the warm-up, giving the vocal exercises a logical structure that leads you to your chosen pieces. Conversely, she likes to integrate technical input into working on pieces, as certain technical difficulties can often be solved through creative and musical work (such as working on lyrics, expression and interpretation).

What does she pay particular attention to when teaching?

Singing is a very intimate act that requires courage and confidence. In her lessons, she pays particular attention to creating a motivating atmosphere and fostering a positive attitude towards making mistakes. A singing lesson should be a space where you feel confident enough to try new things and make 'mistakes' without fear of judgement.

Self-criticism can be helpful for reflection and motivate you to learn from 'mistakes'. However, it is very difficult to completely set it aside. This makes it even more important that it always remains benevolent and constructive. That is why Leila pays particular attention in her lessons to ensuring that you use self-criticism in a healthy way.
