Love and Empty Places
A play about desire and regret with verbatim stories collated by Emma Kelly
Maybe we feel empty because we leave pieces of ourselves in everything we used to love...
Love and loss, confessions and obsessions. These make up the allegory of the human desire to belong, to be whole and find love.
We inherit the stories of our family, it colours how we navigate our relationships. How our grandparents met in the rubble post war. Yet their love was solid. How our parents eloped with just a suitcase no thought for anyone but their infatuation. How our sister never got over a divorce or the husband that died in an accident. The family that drifted apart. The family who stayed together. The drunken rants at funerals and weddings when secrets are revealed, the closeness to love or death compelling people to speak their truth.
Love and Empty Places has roots in verbatim theatre. The performers have generously shared personal stories. These have been married together with dramatized events to create a rich tapestry depicting the parable of human connection.
