Voice Instructor
Allison Renn brings a dynamic blend of expertise and passion to Close Encounters Theatre. She is dedicated to unlocking vocal potential across all ages, abilities, and genres. Using her Master's in Vocal Pedagogy & Performance, Allison combines academic rigor with extensive practical experience. Additionally, Allison has also served as an accomplished pianist/accompanist, providing intuitive support to vocalists and instrumentalists for over two decades.
Her primary focus is vocal coaching and teaching. As a Vocal Coach for productions like Urinetown, Next to Normal, and 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee, she has expertly guided performers in musical theatre, refining character voice, stamina, and style. Allison also excels at preparing singers for auditions and competitions, including leading a first-year a capella high school group to ICHSA Semi-Finals success.
Allison's philosophy centers on being a "vocal mechanic," meticulously refining singing technique for optimal results. She tailors her approach to individual needs, fostering healthy vocal habits and expanding musical horizons across classical, musical theatre, jazz, and contemporary styles.
An accomplished performer herself, with roles in Carmen, Gallantry, Pajama Game, and Pirates of Penzance, and as a featured Soprano soloist in Messiah, Allison understands the demands of the stage. Her true passion, however, lies in guiding others to achieve their vocal aspirations, ensuring every singer finds their strongest, most authentic voice.
