Musician

Tom is a polymath, musician and improviser. He is the musical director of the Zurich-based group The Basic Pitches and has performed for various improv stages including Anundpfirsich, Stubä Production, What Is Normal and Milquetoast. Known for his versatility at the piano, he creates music in the moment across a wide range of styles, from playful underscoring to full-blown improvised songs. Classically trained as a child, Tom eventually realized how important the “playing” part of playing music is. So ten years ago he chose to leave sheet music behind and dedicate himself fully to improvisation, developing a distinctive practice of playing entirely by ear. 

Beyond the world of improv theater, Tom regularly plays for free-form dancing events, creating unique soundscapes with what is present in the moment to support the movement of the bodies and the expression of emotions.

As a former scientist turned full-time artist, Tom brings a broad creative palette to his work. Alongside being a pianist and singer, he is active as a dancer, illustrator, graphic facilitator, and life coach.
