Nathalie Schoenauer

Improv Instructor

Nathalie was born in Switzerland but grew up and lived in Ontario, Canada for most of her life where she absorbed a culture of comedy and entertainment that sank deep into her bones. After studying political theory in university, she pivoted to the world of tv production and broadcasting and built a career in Toronto working mostly in television post-production. She got really good at supervising huge teams of creative people juggling months-long projects, including multi-season runs of shows you’ve probably never heard of. Hey, there’s a TV show for everyone!

A forever fan of comedy and storytelling, Nathalie spent much of her free time learning creative writing including comedy, sketch, autobiography, poetry, and literary fiction. She also dove into learning storytelling performance and improv at Second City in Toronto. With her work, she was constantly surrounded by creative people making bold swings but felt her own creative ambitions starting to atrophy, especially during the pandemic where - like for many people - the painful absence of creative community hit her hard. In a weird series of realizations and self discovery (maybe she’ll tell you about it over a cup of tea one day), she knew she had to make a huge change to jolt herself out of old patterns. Literally ANY change. Cut to Nathalie landing in her home country of Switzerland! It was only after an unexpected adjustment rough patch and an extended health scare that she found herself back in the comforting arms of regular Improv practice in Zurich at the beginning of 2024 where - once and for all - she fully realized the power and positive effect that the creative arts can have on a person’s well-being.

Since then, Nathalie has doubled down on her devotion to comedy and improv and sharing it with as many people as possible. She helped start up a small but electric group of sketch comedy enthusiasts in 2025 called Züri Sketch and even started teaching improv at the beginning 2026. She is now also bringing her media skills to CET’s social media channel and you’ll likely see her floating around with her phone or camera out to capture the magic!

Performing and also teaching with Storylabor, taking classes with UCB and Second City and workshops with the likes of Patti Stiles, Shawn Kinsley, and David Razowsky, Nathalie continues to branch out her experience and to chase the insatiable thrill of making a crowd of people feel something (especially joy!). Her latest training will be at The Annoyance Theatre in Chicago for an intensive improv program.
