I'm very excited about this course: it's inspired by a desire to help unlock and discover our creative talents, to find ways around any blocks we might be having and expanding into different territories and ways of working. Rather than focussing on outcomes as the most important element, the emphasis will be on enjoying the process. It's ideal for a beginner but also suitable for anyone who would like the opportunity to work in a group exploring new ideas.
There'll be an introduction each week to look at a particular material, theme or technique and ways in which you can use it to inspire you. This will be teamed with a look at related painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture and installations from 20th and 21st Century artists, followed by a playful session experimenting to produce your own work. Some materials/techniques will have a second session to consolidate.
Expect materials along the lines of pastels, watercolours, inks, collage, wax resist, charcoal, conte, acrylics, printmaking, some 3D sculpture with wire etc. I'll offer alternatives of either 1) a scaffolded project for those who prefer a little direction to inspire them, or 2) a creative space for anyone who would like to work following their own ideas.
