Love and Empty Places
Maybe we feel empty because we leave pieces of ourselves in everything we used to love. Love and loss, confessions and obsessions. These make up the allegory of human desire to belong, to be whole and find love.We inherit the stories of our family; it colours how we navigate our relationships. How our grandparents met in the rubble post war. Yet their love was solid. How our parents eloped with just a suitcase with no thought for anyone. How our sister never got over a divorce or the husband that died in an accident. The family that drifted apart. The family who stayed together. The aunt who loved another woman but was never accepted. The swinger’s parties indulged in clandestine locations. The drunken rants at funerals and weddings, when the closeness to love or death compels people to speak their truth. Love and Empty Places will have roots in verbatim theatre. Participants will be encouraged to share stories they have inherited or experienced. Alongside contributing to improvisations on themes to do with love and loss. Written scenes illuminating the parable of human connection will be produced and performed from this process.
